A nationwide amateur photography competition – boasting £1,500 worth of prizes – has been launched by United Co-operatives to mark ?World Co-op Day? on 8 July.

Entries should reflect ?The Spirit of co-operation? ? that is, say organisers, people working together to ?achieve common goals or meet shared needs?.

There are two age categories, under 18 and 18 or over ? each offering a first prize of £500 in photo gear. The runner-up will bag £250 worth of kit.

The closing date is 1 June and many of the shortlisted shots will be displayed as part of World Co-op Day at The Lowry in Salford, Greater Manchester (pictured).
