Sony is set to increase the price of its Alpha 900 digital SLR camera by 18% from 1 April as a result of adverse currency fluctuations, Amateur Photographer has learnt.

However, the firm is expected to hold the price of other DSLRs in its range, according to Chris Bowen, head of Digital Imaging at Sony UK.

Like other brands, Sony’s UK prices have been hit by the strength of the Japanese yen.

The list price of the 24.6-million-pixel, full-frame, camera is currently £2,049, body only.

An 18% hike would raise the cost of Sony’s top-of-the-range model to more than £2,400.
