Independent lens maker Sigma has released a 28-300mm ?DG? lens designed for both film and digital SLRs.

Priced £229.99, the f/3.5-6.3 DG Macro optic includes two Special Low Dispersion glass elements and four aspherical lenses.

The 15-element-in-13 group debutante has a claimed minimum focusing distance of 50cm and features a zoom lock switch, designed to prevent movement of the zoom while transporting it.

Features also include a minimum aperture of f/22 and a maximum magnification of 1:3.

It is initially available in Sigma, Canon and Nikon-D fits but will also be available in a Konica/Minolta and Pentax versions at dates yet to be announced.

The lens measures 74x86mm and comes with a petal-shaped lens hood.
