A French photographer has tonight been named the winner of the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, scooping a £30,000 jackpot.

Sophie Ristelhueber beat UK photographers Anna Fox and Donovan Wylie to this year?s title.

Also shortlisted was Zoe Leonard from the United States.

The annual competition aims to reward a photographer who has made ‘the most significant contribution, in exhibition or publication format, to the medium of photography in Europe between 1 October 2008 and 30 September 2009′.

The result was announced by The Photographers’ Gallery in London 30 minutes ago.

The contest focuses on contemporary photography.
