Images that best capture the ?real story of the credit crunch from ground level? will be published on an internet blog hosted by the Financial Times newspaper.
The contest has been organised by image sharing website Demotix which is seeking images on ?how the financial crisis is affecting their local community?.
Entries can include, for example, ?factory closures, street riots, boarded-up houses or the effects of dwindling aid?, according to Demotix.
The best pictures will be shortlisted on 13 February by a panel of ?financial bloggers?.
The winning image also stands a chance of being bought by a national newspaper, say organisers.
Winners and runners-up will receive products from moo.com.
AP has asked for a copy of the full terms and conditions. But, at the time of writing, these were not available via the www.demotix.com website.
