US photographer Spencer Platt has today been named the winner of the 50th annual World Press Photo Contest.

Platt?s image of a group of young Lebanese – driving through a South Beirut neighbourhood devastated by Israeli bombings – beat more than 78,000 other entries to take the top spot.
