Paul Wombell, a former director of The Photographers? Gallery in London, has been appointed the first full-time director of the Hereford Photography Festival.

This year?s festival takes place in and around the city from 30 September-28 October.

Wombell (pictured), who has also been director of the Impressions Gallery in York, pledged: ?Over the years to come, you will see the festival develop a unique programme of events catering for both local and national audiences. The annual Hereford Photography Festival will become the place to be seen.?

Commenting on the appointment Richard Heatly, chairman of the festival?s trustees, said: ?He brings an unparalleled range of international contacts and unsurpassed knowledge of contemporary photography to Hereford? He has got lots of very exciting ideas and we can look forward to interesting times ahead for the festival.?
