Canon G7 X sample image gallery – first impressions of the Canon G7 X

Canon’s Powershot G7 X is a shirt-pocket enthusiast compact with a large 1-inch type sensor, designed to compete directly with Sony’s RX100 series. See our Canon Powershot G7 X Hands-on review and video interview

My first impression of the Canon G7 X is that it’s a very nice camera. The addition of the exposure compensation dial makes it easier to change the exposure compared to many of the camera rivals.

Size-wise the camera is very neat and compact, but with a very premium quality finish with nice touches such as the red metal rings around the shutter and mode dials, and the articulated screen.

The lens range is very good. Again it offers more than the competition.

As you can see from the above Canon G7 X sample image gallery, the colours in the images are the usual quality that you would expect from Canon, and the colours in the default setting are fantastic. However, JPEG compression and noise reduction does seem a little harsh even if the ISO sensitivity isn’t pushed too high. I look forward to seeing the raw files to see what detail the camera can really resolve.’
