Because of the low light, Helena wisely set the ISO to 800 and shot hand held using a 1\/250sec exposure. This resulted in some noticeable noise, which I was able to smooth out by increasing the Luminance noise reduction slider. I was also able to add some extra noise reduction to the sky (where there was no edge detail) by adding a Graduated Filter adjustment.<\/p>\n\t\t<div id=&quot;attachment_102602&quot;  class=\"c-caption alignnone\" style=\"max-width: 650px\">\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-102602 size-large\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Photo-editing-masterclass-Helena-Cowell-Final-630x336.jpg\" alt=\"Photo editing masterclass - Helena Cowell (Final)\" width=\"630\" height=\"336\" \/>\t\t\t<p class=\"c-caption__text\">After<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<h3>1. Crop and apply basic panel adjustments<\/h3>\n<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Photo-editing-masterclass-Helena-Cowell-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-102603\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Photo-editing-masterclass-Helena-Cowell-1-592x400.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"406\" \/><\/a>\n<p>To begin with, I selected the Crop tool and applied a crop that focused more tightly on the people on the beach and straightened the horizon. I then adjusted the Basic panel tone sliders to increase the contrast and add more sparkle.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Reduce the noise<\/h3>\n<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Photo-editing-masterclass-Helena-Cowell-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-102604\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Photo-editing-masterclass-Helena-Cowell-2-551x400.jpg\" alt=\"Photo editing masterclass - Helena Cowell 2\" width=\"600\" height=\"436\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Because this photograph was shot at ISO 800 on a Canon EOS 500D camera, I needed to use the Detail panel controls to add some Luminance noise reduction to reduce the luminance noise. At the same time, I fine-tuned the sharpening sliders to restore some more sharpness.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Add Graduated filter adjustments<\/h3>\n<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Photo-editing-masterclass-Helena-Cowell-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-102605\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Photo-editing-masterclass-Helena-Cowell-3-630x373.jpg\" alt=\"Photo editing masterclass - Helena Cowell 3\" width=\"600\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a>\n<p>To complete the look, I selected the Graduated Filter and added a filter adjustment to the sky. Here, I darkened the Exposure, darkened the Highlights and lightened the Shadows.
