{"id":107885,"date":"2017-07-15T10:07:41","date_gmt":"2017-07-15T09:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amateurphotographer.co.uk\/?p=107885"},"modified":"2017-07-17T12:15:15","modified_gmt":"2017-07-17T11:15:15","slug":"ming-thein-hasselblad-koenigsegg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/latest\/articles\/ming-thein-hasselblad-koenigsegg\/","title":{"rendered":"Ming Thein creates &#8220;never before seen&#8221; images with Hasselblad H6D"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hasselblad Chief of Strategy Ming Thein discusses a recent shoot\u00a0that he did with Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg.\u00a0The unique images that he and his team created aren&#8217;t quite like anything we&#8217;ve seen before.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Above and Beyond: Ming Thein x Hasselblad x Koenigsegg\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/224875412?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n<p>The shoot involved using the Hasselblad H6D-100c, DJI drones including the beastly Matrice 600 and Broncolor lights\u00a0to capture light trails and a highly detailed shot of the car frozen in motion, all within a single exposure. For the majority of the shoot, Ming used the H6D paired with the HC 100mm f2.2, HC 50mm f3.5 and HC 150mm f3.2, with the bulk of the images being captured using the 100. But the most unique images from the shoot were captured using the H6D mounted on the Matrice 600 drone at night.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the difficulty of focusing on a fast-moving car\u00a0while mounted on a drone at night, Ming said: &#8220;We focused on the ground and then we stopped down so that we had enough depth of field to cover it. It was tricky, for certain shots we had to do a bit of trigonometry to calculate the distance of the focusing scale and then stop down for safety. But with 100-megapixels you don&#8217;t have a lot of margin for error, even at f\/16 or f\/11. Basically, you have a working aperture somewhere up to about f\/11 because anything beyond\u00a0that starts to get soft through diffraction and anything lower than that and you don&#8217;t have the depth of field to cover yourself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/static.hasselblad.com\/2017\/07\/H6800-B9999897-905.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-107929 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-14-at-11.22.33-570x400.png\" alt=\"Ming Thein\" width=\"570\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>\n\n\t\t<div id=&quot;attachment_107926&quot;  class=\"c-caption aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 590px\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/static.hasselblad.com\/2017\/07\/H6800-B9999897-905.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-107926\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Screen-Shot-2017-07-14-at-11.19.53-533x400.png\" alt=\"Ming Thein\" width=\"570\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a>\t\t\t<p class=\"c-caption__text\">Click images for hi-resolution samples<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<p>Lighting was also a challenge, particularly during the night sequences because working at such narrow apertures and trying to capture the car in motion, required a lot of flash power. For the shoot, the team used the Broncolor Siros 800s units to help freeze the action, but even 800 watts was quite enough in the unique scenario that the team came up with. &#8220;What you can&#8217;t see is that in a lot of those shots, the\u00a0flash heads are doubled up and they are 800W\/s flashes, so there&#8217;s quite a lot of juice going out,&#8221; Ming explained.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking more philosophically about the challenges that face photographers today and some of the inspiration behind creating something challenging and new on this shoot with Koenigsegg, Ming said: &#8220;The job of photography, especially today, is to show us something that perhaps can\u2019t otherwise be seen. Whether that\u2019s because it\u2019s a fleeting moment or it\u2019s a transient moment, or it\u2019s something our eyes can\u2019t do like long exposures.
