As relative latecomers to the mirrorless camera market, Canon has wasted no time in developing a camera system that delivers DSLR image quality in a compact and lightweight body. The first Canon M series camera, the Canon EOS M, was released in 2013 and there are currently five options in the line-up with the M5 heading up the range as the flagship model.<\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n

Launched to mixed reviews, the original Canon EOS M offered a generous specification and premium build quality at an attractive and highly affordable price. This included an 18-million-pixel APS-C sensor and DIGIC 5 processor, which together delivered image quality comparable to the Canon EOS 650D. The EOS M was aimed primarily at beginners and intermediate photographers, but thanks to the Canon EF-EOS M Mount Adapter, Canon DSLR owners and professionals were able to mount their existing EF lenses on the camera alongside EF-M lenses for a compact second body or travel camera.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are now seven EF-M lenses designed exclusively for M series cameras alongside the EF-EOS M Mount Adapter that is compatible with a full range of Canon EF and EF-S lenses, a total of more than 80 lenses, making this one of the most comprehensive mirrorless camera systems available. The Canon M series has undoubtedly come a long way in a short space of time.<\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n

The Canon EOS M5 offers a 24.2-million-pixel APS-C CMOS sensor powered by the DIGIC 7 processor making it a true alternative to a DSLR for shooting a range of photographic subjects. A large electronic viewfinder lets you compose shots traditionally with the camera held up to your eye, or enjoy the crisp tilting LCD touchscreen on the back of the camera. Video enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that Full HD 60fps with precise tracking is featured, not to mention in-camera 5-axis digital image stabilisation.<\/span><\/p>\n
