Organised by the Guardian<\/em> and the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), the bursary offers \u00a32,000 to spend on a photographic essay documenting an \u2018overseas social documentary issue’.<\/p>\n

The bursary is open to all, with no restriction on age or qualification, according to the Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Applicants should submit six images that show their abilities as a photographer, plus a written proposal for the photographic essay.<\/p>\n

The bursary is named after Joan Wakelin, a photojournalist who died in 2003 aged 75. She specialised in b&w portraiture and, in 1992, was made an honorary fellow of the RPS.<\/p>\n

The closing date is 31 July and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview on 17 August.<\/p>\n

The winner will be announced at the RPS awards on 6 September.<\/p>\n
