The Leica
\nO-Series model – one of just over 20 ever made – became the most expensive
\ncamera in the world when it sold for \u20ac2,160,000 at the Westlicht auction in
\nVienna, Austria,
\n \n<\/p>\n

\u2018In an
\nexciting bidding war between the room, phone and internet bidders, the price of
\nthe camera climbed to a new world record,’ said a spokesman for the auction.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The bidding
\nstarted at \u20ac300,000, but the camera ended up fetching more than seven times
\nthat figure.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

Last year,
\nanother in the \u2018O’ series <\/a>went under the hammer for around \u00a31.15m. It was bought by someone in the \u2018Far East’.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The Leica
\nO-series cameras preceded the production-line Leica 1 models that launched the
\n35mm film format for still photography.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

They were
\ndeveloped as a second stage \u2013 after the first concept, the Ur Leica \u2013 to test the
\nmarket for such cameras. <\/p>\n
