If so, read on\u2026<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The festive season is almost upon us, which means it\u2019s time for Stir-up Sunday, sentimental TV adverts, and <strong>the Amateur Photographer Christmas cover contest<\/strong>. Here is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have your work featured on the <strong>front cover of the world\u2019s number one weekly photography magazine<\/strong> over Christmas!<\/p>\n<p>You are free to interpret the theme in any way you choose: naturally we are happy to see shots of baubles, trees and lights, but we also want pictures that show the creative potential of the season in general, so feel free to submit winter landscapes, indoor portraits, frosty flora and fauna etc.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget that to succeed as a cover photo, images will need space at the top for the AP masthead, plus plenty of space for the coverlines.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/web-AMP_2017_051_DEC23_001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"155861 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/web-AMP_2017_051_DEC23_001.jpg\" alt=\"christmas cover of robin 2017\" width=\"619\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a>\n<h3>The Christmas cover prize<\/h3>\n<p>The overall winner (as judged by the AP team) will see their picture grace the cover of the bumper <strong>AP Christmas Special issue (18 December 2021).<\/strong> They will also receive <strong>a cash prize of \u00a3100, and a one-year subscription to AP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A selection of commended entries will be published inside the magazine.<\/p>\n<h3>How to enter<\/h3>\n<p>The competition is open to everyone, whether amateur or professional. There are two ways to enter:<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Post them on your Instagram or Twitter feed<\/strong>, and be sure to use the hashtag <strong>#apxmascover<\/strong>. We\u2019ll contact you for the high-res file if your picture is shortlisted.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Email your images to us at ap.ed@kelsey.co.uk<\/strong>. Here are our tips<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t crop in too tightly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leave space for the magazine \u2018furniture\u2019 \u2013 masthead, coverlines and any graphic devices that we use to describe what\u2019s in the issue. Busy images that have lots of detail are generally unsuitable as they make superimposed text tricky to read.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/web-christmas-cover-2020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"155863 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/web-christmas-cover-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"654\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a>\n<p><strong>Shoot portrait-format pictures<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s not unheard of for us to use a section of a landscape-format shot, your chances are improved by shooting in the upright format.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Make eye contact<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re submitting a portrait, ensure good eye contact, with the subject looking directly into the lens. Make sure the eyes are pin-sharp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Provide plenty of options<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Try various angles and subject placements, with the main focal point to the left, the right and centre,
