{"id":163850,"date":"2022-04-07T11:28:43","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T10:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/?p=163850"},"modified":"2022-04-07T11:28:43","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T10:28:43","slug":"npg-invites-entries-to-taylor-wessing-portrait-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/latest\/photo-news\/npg-invites-entries-to-taylor-wessing-portrait-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"NPG invites entries to Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) has announced that entries are open to its annual Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, which celebrates and promotes the very best in contemporary portrait photography.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Submissions are being invited up until 5pm on 31 May 2022 via a brand new digital platform, specially developed for this year\u2019s prize.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize\u00a0is one of the most competitive photography awards in the world and showcases the work of some of the most exciting and cutting-edge contemporary photographers.<\/p>\n<p>Following the success of 2021\u2019s display, which featured 54 portraits from 25 artists, works submitted in 2022 will again be exhibited at the South Kensington-based arts hub, Cromwell Place, while the NPG\u2019s building undergoes a major transformation.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will open in London on 27 October 2022 and will run until 18 December 2022.<\/p>\n<h3>Open to over 18s<\/h3>\n<p>The competition is open to everyone aged 18 and over from around the world, whether a leading professional, a talented amateur or an exciting emerging artist.<\/p>\n<p>Photographers are encouraged to interpret \u2018portrait\u2019 in its widest sense, with <em>\u2018photography focused on portraying people with an emphasis on their identity as individuals.\u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n\t\t<div id=&quot;attachment_163852&quot;  class=\"c-caption aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 1020px\">\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"163852\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Yuki-San-from-the-series-Hakanai-Sonzai-by-Pierre-Elle-de-Pibrac.-Pierre-Elle-de-Pibrac.jpg\" alt=\"Yuki San from the series Hakanai Sonzai by Pierre-Elie de Pibrac. \u00a9 Pierre-Elie de Pibrac \" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/>\t\t\t<p class=\"c-caption__text\">Yuki San from the series Hakanai Sonzai by Pierre-Elie de Pibrac &#8211; one of the winners in the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize 2021.\u00a0 \u00a9 Pierre-Elie de Pibrac<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<p>The winner of the competition will receive \u00a315,000, with second prize receiving \u00a33,000 and third prize \u00a32,000.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Photographic Portrait Prize\u00a0has been sponsored by international law firm Taylor Wessing since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the 15th anniversary of their support for this prestigious competition and exhibition, which has received over one million visits since its launch in 1993.<\/p>\n<h3>Inspired by creativity<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Nicholas Cullinan, director of the National Portrait Gallery, said<strong>,<\/strong> &#8216;<em>In its fifteenth year of sponsorship, we are thrilled to be opening entries to the\u00a0Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2022.
