Compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/reviews\/lenses\/sony-fe-24-70mm-f2-8-gm-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>existing lens from 2016<\/strong><\/a>, the new optic is <strong>smaller and lighter<\/strong>, while boasting <strong>improved operability<\/strong>. It\u2019s also claimed to be sharper and better suited to the demands of video shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Measuring 88mm in diameter by 120mm in length, and tipping the scales at 695g, Sony claims this the world\u2019s smallest and lightest 24-70mm f\/2.8 lens. Despite its reduced dimensions, it sports an <strong>aperture ring<\/strong> which clicks at one-third stop intervals, but can be switched to smooth operation for video recording. The zoom mechanism gains a <strong>torque control<\/strong> with smooth and tight settings, and dual focus hold buttons are on board for portrait and landscape shooting.<\/p>\n\t\t<div  class=\"c-caption aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 620px\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Sony-FE-24-70mm-F2.8-GM-II-on-Sony-A7R-IV-d0hT2fhS.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"164822\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Sony-FE-24-70mm-F2.8-GM-II-on-Sony-A7R-IV-d0hT2fhS-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II on Sony Alpha A7R IV\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>\t\t\t<p class=\"c-caption__text\">Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II on Sony Alpha A7R IV<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<p>Sony says the autofocus is capable of keeping up with the demands of the latest high-speed cameras, with four XD Linear Motors promising <strong>improved subject tracking<\/strong> at shooting rates up to 30 frames per second. The minimum focus distance ranges from <strong>21cm<\/strong> at wideangle to <strong>30cm<\/strong> at telephoto, providing <strong>0.32x magnification<\/strong>. Focus breathing is said to be reduced, while linear response manual focus is on hand to provide an intuitive feel and enable controlled focus pulls during video recording.<\/p>\n<p>Optically, Sony has employed 20 elements in 15 groups, including 2 XA (extreme aspherical) lenses and 3 aspherical lenses to minimise aberrations and maintain sharpness at all focus distances. In addition, 2 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and 2 Super ED glass elements suppress colour fringing. Nano AR Coating II combats flare and ghosting, while an 11-blade circular aperture promises to deliver attractively blurred backgrounds.<\/p>\n\t\t<div  class=\"c-caption aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 620px\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Sony-FE-24-70mm-F2.8-GM-II-slant-d0hT2fhS.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"164824\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Sony-FE-24-70mm-F2.8-GM-II-slant-d0hT2fhS-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>\t\t\t<p class=\"c-caption__text\">Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<p>As usual for the firm\u2019s premium G Master lenses, the barrel has a <strong>dust and moisture resistant design<\/strong>, along with a fluorine coating to help keep the front element clean. The lens accepts <strong>82mm filters<\/strong>, the same size as both its predecessor and the FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM wideangle zoom.
