The final programme for the Photo London 2022 international photography fair has been confirmed with 106 exhibitors from 18 countries presenting photography in all its forms – ranging from images from the 1850s to new work that’s redefining the medium.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fair founders Michael Benson and Fariba Farshad commented, \u2018Photo London\u2019s mission has always been to show the best of the past, present and future of photography. This edition is no exception, presenting exhibitors and artists whose work not only delights and surprises, but in many cases also challenges assumptions about what photography can be.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

The physical Photo London show will be held at Somerset House, London, from Thursday 12 May till Sunday 15 May, whilst the third edition of Photo London Digital will run from 11-29 May 2022.<\/p>\n\t\t

Group shows <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Group presentations featuring major artists include Aperture (New York) bringing the work of Nan Goldin, Robert Capa, Gregory Halpern and Viviane Sassen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Bene Taschen (Cologne) is showing Sebastia\u0303o Salgado, Jamel Shabazz and Jeff Mermelstein, whilst the Galerie Cle\u0301mentine de la Fe\u0301ronnie\u0300re (Paris) is presenting works by FLORE, Martin Parr and Fre\u0301de\u0301ric Stucin.<\/p>\n

Galerie Sophie Scheidecker (Paris) will display works by Irving Penn, amongst others.<\/p>\n

The Grob Gallery (Switzerland) will present the works of William Klein and Magnum Photos will showcase works by Khalik Allah, Bruce Davidson and Yael Marti\u0301nez.<\/p>\n

A special booth will be dedicated to photography collector and gallerist Peter Fetterman\u2019s The Power of Photography<\/em> \u2013 a project inspired by the long months of lockdown, during which Fetterman posted one iconic image per day in a digital collection.<\/p>\n

His showcase will include 120 masterworks by the likes of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastia\u0303o Salgado, Sabine Weiss, David Bailey, Eve Arnold, Mark Riboud, Paul Fusco, Sarah Moon and Elliott Erwitt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The exhibition ties in with the recently published book The Power of Photography<\/em> (ACC Art Books).<\/p>\n\t\t

Vintage and classic photography <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Photo London\u2019s commitment to the presentation of classic and vintage photography is in evidence…<\/p>\n

James Hyman Gallery (London) will present rare \u2018self-portraits\u2019, dating between the 1850s and the 1890s, by one of the greatest figures in the history of photography \u2013 the Countess of Castiglione.<\/p>\n

Curatorial\u2019s (L.A) booth celebrates the 1920s with mammoth vintage gelatin-silver prints by Emil Otto Hoppe\u0301 of America\u2019s industrial landscape combined with Paul Outerbridge’s 1920s vintage nudes.<\/p>\n

Lee Miller Archives presents Surrealist Eye<\/em><\/strong>, focusing on the Surrealist way of seeing in Lee Miller\u2019s work through the many chapters of her life and will be shown alongside works by her husband Roland Penrose.<\/p>\n\t\t

New developments in photography <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Discovery section for emerging galleries offers an opportunity to check the pulse of what\u2019s going on at the frontiers of photography.<\/p>\n

Returning exhibitors include Euqinom (San Francisco) featuring works by Christine Elfman, Ansley West Rivers and Rodrigo Valenzuela and Hi-Noon (London) will be showing Yushi Li, Bowei Zhang and Melanie Issaka.<\/p>\n

Photon, from Ljubljana, will present work by Aniko\u0301 Robitz, Tomo Brejc, Dino Kuz\u030cnik and Ladislav Postupa.<\/p>\n

New exhibitor LS10, from London, will show work by young Iranian photographers including Ebrahim Noroozi, Jassem Ghazbanpour and Jalal Sepehr.<\/p>\n\t\t

Galleries from near and far <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Galleries from 35 cities will be represented at this year\u2019s fair. Among these are galleries returning from territories that were unable to attend in September 2021, including Galerie Thomas Zander (Cologne), Persons Projects (Berlin), Reflex (Amsterdam), Versus Projects (Istanbul) and US dealers Euqinom (San Francisco) and Holden Luntz (Palm Beach).<\/p>\n

As a result of Photo London\u2019s partnership with the World Photography Organisation\/PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, there will be a special China Showcase featuring Hu Weiyi (HdM Gallery), Stanley Fung (M Art Center), Guanyu Xu and Hailun Ma (Gaotai Gallery), Chen Ronghui and Liu Ke (Three Shadows +3 Gallery), Jiang Zhi (X Contemporary Art), Huang Xiaoliang and Wang Juyan (see+ gallery), Yang Yongliang and Guo Guozhu (Matthew Liu Fine Arts).<\/p>\n

Photographers from Africa and its diaspora are represented by Afrikaris (Paris) showing contemporary portraiture by Sai\u0308dou Dicko, Nana Yaw Oduro, \u2018A\u0300si\u0300ko\u0300 and Marc Posso.<\/p>\n

193 Gallery (Paris) will be showing works by the young artists Derrick Ofosu Boateng from Ghana and Thandiwe Muriu from Kenya.<\/p>\n\t\t

First time exhibitor Doyle Wham (London) presenting works by legendary photographer, stylist and icon Trevor Stuurman, known both for his significant contribution to the global fashion industry and his celebratory portraiture.<\/p>\n

Exhibitors will also be representing photography from Latin America with Carcara Photo Art (Sa\u0303o Paulo) presenting previously unpublished photographs by Luiz Antonio Nogueira Garrido of John Lennon with Yoko Ono from 1969<\/strong>, during their honeymoon in Paris and the recording of Give Peace a Chance<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Albumen (London) is showing a Latin American Salon<\/em> with works by four photographers from Brazil, Bolivia and Columbia, whilst ALMANAQUE fotogra\u0301fica (Mexico City) will present a group show of Mexican and French photographers.<\/p>\n\t\t

Supporting Ukraine<\/h3>\n

Several galleries are devoting their booths to supporting Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Alexandra de Viveiros (Paris) is presenting seven artists belonging to the celebrated Kharkiv School, which forged a new iconography in the 1970s that defied the codes of socialist realism and repressive censorship.<\/p>\n

Ilex Gallery (Warsaw) is exhibiting works of the most outstanding contemporary photographers alongside legendary artists from the Kharkiv school.<\/p>\n

Spru\u0308th Magers (London) and David Zwirner (New York, Paris, London and Hong Kong) are showing prints of Philip-Lorca diCorcia\u2019s images from his time spent in Odessa, Ukraine in the late 1990s.<\/p>\n

The funds raised from the sale of these will immediately go to grass-roots charities to help those suffering from the humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n

UK exhibitors<\/h3>\n

UK exhibitor highlights include The Photographers\u2019 Gallery with a series of works by the distinguished Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti.<\/p>\n

Imitate Modern will be showcasing the work of Tyler Shields, whilst The Gallery of Everything is presenting a selection of photographic works from the canon of 20th century alternative art makers.<\/p>\n

Iconic Images is presenting Rockers, Royals and Rebels<\/em>, including works by Gered Mankowitz, Kevin Cummins and Bill Wyman, who will all be doing special book signings during Photo London 2022.<\/p>\n\t\t

Major exhibitions<\/h3>\n

The Master of Photography exhibition this year is Nick Knight: Future<\/em><\/strong>, which showcases key works across Nick Knight\u2019s career, from the 1980s till today.<\/p>\n

Spanning fashion, portraiture, still life and landscape, the works are realised as photography, film, installation and a vast new sculpture.<\/p>\n

Nick Knight explained, \u2018being a photographer is actually not about what you see, it’s about what you feel and that feeling can be transformed into any art form. We are probably in the most exciting time for creativity ever.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

The second exhibition in this year\u2019s Public Programme is a homage to the legendary photographer Frank Horvat (1928-2020)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Throughout a career that lasted seven decades, Horvat was constantly experimenting and adapting to new technologies making work that transcended the prevailing photographic orthodoxy and revolutionised fashion photography.<\/p>\n

Curated by his daughter Fiammetta Horvat, the exhibition focuses on Horvat\u2019s fashion work for leading magazines and images depicting Paris at night.<\/p>\n\t\t

Talks programme <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Photo London has also released details of its Talks Programme, which will be held both at the fair and online.<\/p>\n

The talks include artist Anastasia Samoylova in conversation with writer, curator, artist, and educator David Campany.<\/p>\n

Scottish documentary photographer Polly Braden and writer and art critic Hettie Judah will discuss topics raised in Braden\u2019s work Holding the Baby<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Visual artist Melanie Manchot will talk to Dr. David Dibosa about her multifaceted and performative practice that embraces photography, film, video and installation.<\/p>\n

Photo London\u2019s Official Partner, Nikon, has a strong line-up of talks<\/strong>. These include fine art portrait photographer Therese Asplund, photographer and director Conor McDonnell and doctor\/photographer Jon Williamson (who will be discussing challenges in documentary photography).<\/p>\n

The Nikon talks will also include ShotByWomen<\/em> with Nikon photographers Scarlet Page, Shirlaine Forrest, Linda Wride and Stella Scordellis discussing their experiences shooting music, sport and abstract architecture.<\/p>\n
