The 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | C is essentially a smaller and more affordable alternative to the firm\u2019s premium <a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/reviews\/lenses\/sigma-14-24mm-f2-8-dg-dn-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art<\/a>, with a zoom range that makes it suitable for a range of subjects such as landscapes, architecture, and interiors.<\/p>\n<p>The new 16-28mm f\/2.8 is designed to complement the similarly compact <a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/reviews\/lenses\/sigma-28-70mm-f2-8-dg-dn-c-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | C<\/a>, and together, the two lenses weigh in at well under a kilogram. As with its 28-70mm sibling, Sigma has been able to reduce the lens\u2019s size by restricting its zoom range. Given that most users will surely be pairing this lens with a standard zoom starting at 24mm or 28mm, few are likely to be concerned by the \u2018missing\u2019 28-35mm range compared to conventional 16-35mm zooms.<\/p>\n\t\t<div  class=\"c-caption aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 620px\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Sigma_16_28_28_dg_dn_with_28_70_dg_dn.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"167174\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Sigma_16_28_28_dg_dn_with_28_70_dg_dn-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 on Sony Alpha 7C with Sigma 28-70mm f\/2.8 \" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>\t\t\t<p class=\"c-caption__text\">The Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 should make a nice pairing with the firm&#8217;s 28-70mm f\/2.8. Here they&#8217;re shown together with the Sony Alpha 7C<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<p>Physically, the 16-28mm f\/2.8 measures 77.2mm in diameter, 100.6mm in length, and weighs 450g, making it very similar in size to its closest competitor, the <a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/reviews\/lenses\/tamron-17-28mm-f-2-8-di-iii-rxd-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tamron 17-28mm F\/2.8 Di III RXD<\/a>. In comparison, the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN Art measures 85mm in diameter, 131mm in length, and weighs in at 795g (it also costs \u00a31299).<\/p>\n<p>Like its 28-70mm sibling, the 16-28mm employs a relatively simple design. The only physical controls are the zoom and focus rings and an AF\/MF switch; however, there\u2019s no aperture ring or AF hold button. The outer barrel is primarily constructed from Sigma\u2019s Thermal Stable Composite plastic and promises a dust- and splash-proof structure, while the front element is treated with a water and oil-resistant coating. Both zooming and focusing are internal.<\/p>\n\t\t<div  class=\"c-caption aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 620px\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Sigma_16_28_28_dg_dn_c022_side.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"167175\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Sigma_16_28_28_dg_dn_c022_side-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Sigma 16-28mm f\/2.8 side view\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>\t\t\t<p class=\"c-caption__text\">Sigma&#8217;s 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | C boasts an AF\/MF switch and comes with a petal-shaped hood<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<p>Optically, the lens employs 16 elements in 11 groups, including 5 \u2018F\u2019 Low Dispersion glass (FLD) and 4 aspherical elements. Together, these aim to minimise field curvature and maintain sharpness into the corners of the image while minimising chromatic aberration. Sigma has employed its Super Multi-Layer Coating to suppress flare and ghosting.<\/p>\n<p>Autofocus is driven by a stepping motor, promising fast and silent focusing. The minimum focus distance is 25cm, and the lens takes 72mm filters.
