The shortlisted entries for the Northern Photography Prize have been revealed<\/strong>, following hundreds of submissions from amateur photographers invited to capture the spirit and heart of the North East of England.<\/p>\n

Entries were submitted across two categories; landscape (Spirit of the North East) and portrait (Heart of the North East), with a \u00a31,000 cash prize set for the two winners, as well as a platform to develop their passion for photography.<\/p>\n

The shortlist features images of iconic landscapes in action showcasing the spirit of the region with a flight of birds on Holy Island, a winter sunrise at Sycamore Gap and an atmospheric day at Spittal Beach. The portrait category showcases the heart of the region through moving moments of local people enjoying beach days and city life.<\/p>\n

The shortlisted images will be displayed in a free-to-enter exhibition at The Biscuit Factory, Newcastle<\/a> from 10-23 September 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t

The winner of each category will be announced on 31 September and will be judged by a panel including professional photographers, Jason Friend and Adam Lang.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the competition, prize founder, sponsor, and best-selling author, LR Ross commented: \u201cI\u2019ve always been inspired by the unique ability of talented photographers to capture the essence of a person or a place\u2026 After such a difficult time during the pandemic, I wanted to found a prize that celebrates the \u2018spirit\u2019 and \u2018heart\u2019 of our shared region and to continue to support and encourage the arts.\u201d<\/p>\n\t\t
