Amateur photographers will soon have a new market to sell their images, thanks to a deal struck between picture agency Corbis and citizen journalism newswire Demotix.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The agreement will give Corbis access to images captured by more than 4,000 semi-professional and freelance photographers who contribute to Demotix.<\/p>\n

?Our new partnership with Demotix complements our breaking news offering with photography of news events that happen off the beaten path,? said Corbis?s director of News, Sports and Entertainment Anil Ramchand. <\/p>\n

Corbis says it will ?handpick? a selection of images to be distributed through its website from the end of March.<\/p>\n

Asked how much Demotix contributors can expect to be paid, a Corbis spokesperson said: ‘As is standard industry practice Corbis, as a reseller of Demotix images, will take a small percentage of each Demotix sale, and the remaining revenue will be split with Demotix and the Demotix contributor.’<\/p>\n

Demotix CEO Turi Munthe said the deal will give the firm?s community of contributors ?significant reach into newsrooms around the world?.<\/p>\n

The news comes a month after the Press Association (PA) signed a similar deal<\/a> with Demotix whereby amateur photographers will be paid by Demotix (rather than PA). <\/p>\n
