The Foreign Office has launched an investigation following media reports that use of cameras with detachable lenses has been outlawed in Kuwait.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Earlier this week<\/a> the Kuwait Times<\/em> reported that the country’s Ministry of Information, Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Finance deemed photography should be used for ‘journalism purposes only’. <\/p>\n

The newspaper suggested that use of digital SLR cameras (DSLRs) in public by non-journalists has been banned.<\/p>\n

It added: ?What often happens is that a big black camera tends to worry people. <\/p>\n

?Taking a picture of a stranger would seem much less of an issue if you were using a more discreet camera or even a cell phone.?<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) told Amateur Photographer<\/em> it is conducting an ?investigation? into the claims and will report back in due course.<\/p>\n

However, the FCO spokeswoman said that, for the time being, advice to travellers from the UK remains the same. <\/p>\n

Current FCO advice for travellers states: ?Photography near government, military and industrial sites, particularly oil fields, is forbidden.?<\/p>\n

The Kuwait Embassy in London has yet to respond to our request for comment.<\/p>\n
