American photographer Ron Galella, hailed as one of the first paparazzi photographers, relives his career in a TV programme to be broadcast on BBC One tonight.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hailed by Time<\/em> magazine as the ?Godfather of the US paparazzi culture? Galella is renowned for his tenacity in pursuit of a story.<\/p>\n

This led him to having his jaw broken by Marlon Brando, court battles with Jackie Kennedy and a ?serious beating? from Richard Burton?s bodyguards.<\/p>\n

The programme, Smash His Camera<\/em>, is due to be shown on BBC One at 10.35pm.<\/p>\n

A BBC spokesman said: ?In this film, the award-winning programme-maker Leon Gast follows Galella as he revisits some of his old haunts and recalls his encounters with the stars who have tried ? and usually failed – to evade his lens.?<\/p>\n

The native New Yorker began his career as a photographer in the US Air Force before taking a photojournalism degree at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

His career, which has spanned more than 40 years, has seen him capture more than three million photos.<\/p>\n
