<\/span>Page One: Gallery in quest to identify people in portraits<\/p>\n

Photographer Dorothy Bohm has appealed for help in identifying the subjects in portraits she captured during the 1940s and 50s.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Staff at Manchester Art Gallery hope that people may recognise faces in the photographs and come forward with information to add to the gallery?s research about Dorothy?s first studio, Studio Alexander, which opened in the city’s Market Street in 1946.<\/p>\n

The research will be used accompany a four month-long exhibition of Dorothy?s work that opens in Manchester on 24 April.<\/p>\n

The show will feature a reconstruction of Dorothy?s studio and a replica darkroom.<\/p>\n

Research assistant Jennifer Boyd said: ?I am very keen to find Dorothy?s sitters and unearth more information on her studios.?<\/p>\n

A Studio Alexander portrait contains a handwritten ?Dorothy Alexander’ signature in the bottom right-hand corner.<\/p>\n

The gallery is also keen to hear from anyone who has their own copies of similar photos taken by Dorothy.<\/p>\n

The retrospective exhibition, A World Observed 1940-2010: Photographs by Dorothy Bohm, runs from 24 April-30 August at Manchester Art Gallery, Mosley Street, Manchester M2 3JL. Visit www.manchestergalleries.org\/dorothybohm<\/p>\n

Born in 1924, Dorothy moved to Paris in 1953, before travelling to America.<\/p>\n

In 1971, Dorothy co-founded The Photographers? Gallery<\/a> in London.<\/p>\n

She has lived in Hampstead, London since 1956.<\/p>\n
