War photographer Phil Coburn who was seriously injured by a bomb in Afghanistan that killed his journalist colleague Rupert Hamer, is due to be flown back to the UK.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sunday Mirror<\/em> photographer, who has serious leg injuries, is expected to be taken to Selly Oak hospital in Birmingham later today, according The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old is reported to be in a serious but stable condition following the roadside explosion that killed Sunday Mirror<\/em> defence correspondent Rupert Hamer, 39 and a US marine.<\/p>\n

The newspaper’s editor Tina Weaver said yesterday<\/a>: ‘Phil is a veteran of conflicts in Iraq, Rwanda and Afghanistan who has been with the Sunday Mirror<\/em> for eight years.<\/p>\n

‘He is a consummate all-round journalist and brilliant photographer whose pictures grace any newspaper.<\/p>\n

‘He and Rupert made a dedicated team, working together around the world, sacrificing personal comfort countless times to record the reality of wars.<\/p>\n

‘We wish Phil a speedy recovery, and send our warmest wishes to his partner and family.’<\/p>\n
