The launch of a new range of ?spy? camera gadgets has been cancelled as a direct result of the global consumer downturn, their UK distributor has revealed.<\/p>\n

This month Minox was due to launch a string of spy camera gadgets, including a pair of sunglasses with a built-in 1.3-million-pixel still image camera (pictured).<\/p>\n

But Dave Morgan, product co-ordinator at Minox?s UK distributor, Newpro Ltd, said: ?While it was planned to introduce a digital pen camera, digital sunglasses camera, digital belt camera and special backward-looking sunglasses, the overall worldwide economic conditions have shown there is no real need for this kind of product for the foreseeable future and, therefore, they will not be produced.?<\/p>\n

Priced \u00a3159 the Minox Digital Sunglasses were set to contain an MP3 player with 1GB of storage space. The camera could be operated by remote control.<\/p>\n

Minox has also hoped to market a belt with a built-in (176×144 pixel) video camera, priced \u00a3219, and a pen that records video at 352×288 pixels resolution, with sound.<\/p>\n

The gadgets ? due to go on sale this month ? had been showcased at the biennial photographic kit show, Photokina<\/a>, held in Cologne Germany two months ago.<\/p>\n

However, plans to launch the Minox Digital Spy Camera<\/a> will go ahead. It will cost \u00a3219 when it goes on sale in mid-December, complete with a separate flash unit.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Minox halved the price<\/a> of its legendary film-based ‘TLX’ subminiature camera. <\/p>\n
