A drug charity founded by music legend Eric Clapton will miss out on proceeds from the sale of an historic Leica digital camera<\/a> after the firm changed plans at the last minute.<\/p>\n

Instead an organisation that campaigns for press freedom is set to benefit from the sale of the first Leica M8 ever made.<\/p>\n

Expected to raise up to ?30,000 (around \u00a324,000) the gem will go on sale at the Westlicht Photographica Auction in Vienna, Austria on 7 June. <\/p>\n

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to Reporters Without Borders, a body which works to improve safety for journalists.<\/p>\n

Leica had initially planned to donate cash from the sale to the Crossroads Center in the Caribbean, a drug and alcohol addiction recovery centre. <\/p>\n

Clapton, who set up the centre in 1997, is described as a Leica camera ‘fanatic’.<\/p>\n
