Uncertainty continues to surround the planned launch of Pentax?s medium-format digital SLR following the company?s reluctance to comment on whether the camera is still going ahead.<\/p>\n

It is not clear from Pentax?s latest management plan whether the 645 Digital – first mooted more than two years ago ? will form part of Pentax?s product line-up.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, Pentax?s UK office declined to comment after repeatedly being asked by AP to clarify the situation following press speculation last week. AP story 11 May<\/a><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a statement issued by Pentax?s Japanese HQ confirms plans to produce 1m digital SLRs per year by the 2009 financial year. <\/p>\n

Sales are reported to have been forecast at 500,000 units this year.<\/p>\n

We understand that Pentax sold 300,000 digital SLRs in the year to 31 March 2007.<\/p>\n

The firm says it plans to introduce ?new entry-level, middle-class and upper-end models? to its DSLR line-up.<\/p>\n
