The British Airways London Eye has launched an online photography competition – open to professionals and enthusiasts – to celebrate its 25 millionth visitor.<\/p>\n
Organisers say the public can upload their photographs of the London Eye ? as well as images shot from the Eye ? to www.londoneye.com\/photography. The website is expected to go ‘live’ later today.<\/p>\n
Judges will select 12 finalists to receive ?exclusive? London Eye prizes. The overall winner will receive a year-long pass to all Tussauds group attractions, photography equipment and the winning picture will go on show at the London Eye ticket office.<\/p>\n
?Whether it is panoramic views of the dramatic capital city skyline, scenes of the sun setting behind the capsules, or close-up shots of the spoke cables – so critical to the construction of the modern icon – everyone?s personal visual interpretation of the famous landmark is welcomed as it celebrates 25 million visitors,? said a spokesman.<\/p>\n
Though organisers are keen for the public to be involved, the rule for those using professional or semi-professional equipment ? including tripods – remains. This is this largely to avoid congestion in the area in front of the Eye.<\/p>\n
As reported in AP?s issue dated 16 December 2006, photographers using ?professional? or ?semi-professional? equipment must contact the British Airways London Eye press office at least two days before they intend to take photos. <\/p>\n
This rule applies to enthusiasts taking commercial and\/or non-commercial shots with or without a tripod. They should email the London Eye press office at pressoffice@ba-londoneye.com or call 0870 220 2777 (open Monday to Friday).<\/p>\n
