Police are investigating how an elderly man fell 300ft to his death from the Shell Tower in central London while taking pictures from the public viewing gallery.<\/p>\n

The man fell off the 25th floor of the tower on London?s South Bank last Tuesday in what has been described as a tragic accident. <\/p>\n

Alongside his body police found the man?s camera, camera case and roll of film.<\/p>\n

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said police were not treating his death as suspicious and told AP: ?It is believed that he fell from the public viewing area.?<\/p>\n

It is thought that the man may have somehow toppled over the gallery?s chest-high barrier.<\/p>\n

Police are understood to be studying the film to find out whether the angle of any pictures taken reveal how he fell.<\/p>\n

The police spokeswoman confirmed that the man – who used to work at the building – paid regular visits to meet former colleagues and to take pictures from the viewing gallery located on top of the tower.<\/p>\n

The tower offers excellent views of the London skyline, including nearby Big Ben, Westminster and the London Eye. It was clear and sunny in the capital on the day of the incident.<\/p>\n

Newspapers have named the man as 75-year-old Reg Grogan from Croydon, South London but police refused to confirm this when we contacted them this morning.<\/p>\n
