A freelance photographer has won \u00a345,000 in an out-of-court settlement after a three-year copyright battle with the English Basketball Association (EBA), the sport?s governing body.<\/p>\n
Dedicated AP reader Chris Tofalos had accused the organisation of more than 200 copyright infringements ? using his images without authorisation, despite a written agreement with his former client stipulating the fees he would receive if his work was used without permission.<\/p>\n
Chris told us that the EBA published his pictures in a basketball book, numerous issues of the EBA’s basketball magazine, its annual reports, website pages and in training\/advisory publications. ?The nightmare is over,? said Chris, whose career has included work for The Guardian<\/i> and the Manchester Evening News<\/i>. <\/p>\n
The out-of-court settlement was reached after negotiation through Chris?s union, the National Union of Journalists.<\/p>\n
England Basketball ? the trading name for the EBA ? refused to comment on the matter when approached by AP.<\/p>\n
