The Wiki Loves Monuments competition is built around the purpose of providing photographic resources of sites of cultural significance for future generations to use.<\/p>\n

Anyone can join in the competition to improve the Monuments map by uploading photos to Wikimedia Commons this month. The full list of eligible subjects is here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As Wikimedia Commons is an open resource of publicly available images, be aware that you will have to be willing to have your entry available in the public domain.<\/p>\n

The 2013 edition of the competition saw more than 368,000 entries from 53 countries. Despite this, there are still many listed sites yet to have a photo submitted.<\/p>\n

Last year’s winner was David Gubler, with an image of a locomotive with a push-pull train crossing the Wiesener Viadut over the Landwasser River in Graubunden, Switzerland (above).<\/p>\n
