{"id":35621,"date":"2014-09-30T23:58:52","date_gmt":"2014-09-30T22:58:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amateurphotographer.co.uk\/?p=35621"},"modified":"2014-10-01T16:30:24","modified_gmt":"2014-10-01T15:30:24","slug":"wartime-photos-mystery-museum-appeals-help","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/latest\/photo-news\/wartime-photos-mystery-museum-appeals-help\/","title":{"rendered":"Wartime photos: Imperial War Museum appeals for help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Air Museum, based in Duxford, Cambridgeshire is collecting images and information about US Army Air Forces who served in England during the war.<\/p>\n<p>The museum today launches a crowdsourcing website, displaying 5,000 images drawn from a collection of 15,000 prints and slides built up by Roger Freeman, an aviation historian.<\/p>\n<p>Bosses now want the public to help spot familiar faces or places, to bolster the site\u2019s use as a digital resource.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Some of the photographs on our website show the Americans talking to local children during the Second World War,\u2019 said project leader Jenny Cousins.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Perhaps someone using our website will recognise their grandma or \u2013 better still \u2013 perhaps she will recognise herself. We hope that people will add their own pictures and tell us their stories.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the Imperial War Museum, where the American Air Museum is based, added: \u2018You can become an armchair history detective and help us to fill in the gaps in information that we currently have.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018For instance, we need to know more about the civilians that the American service personnel met in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We also know very little about the United States Army Air Forces bases that provided support to the air bases \u2013 the bakeries, laundries and logistics of
