The drone was reported to be a DJI Phantom 2 Vision quadcopter (above)<\/em><\/p>\n\n

The owner told police he was taking aerial photos of his friend\u2019s home, a property under construction in New Jersey, USA.<\/p>\n

\u2018While doing so he heard several gunshots as he simultaneously lost control of the drone,\u2019 Lieutenant Patrick Greene was quoted as saying in a press release<\/a> posted online by Motherboard<\/a>, an internet-based magazine and video channel.<\/p>\n

\u2018Upon retrieving the drone, he observed multiple holes in it consistent with a shotgun blast.\u2019<\/p>\n

A local man was reportedly arrested and charged with \u2018possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and criminal mischief\u2019.<\/p>\n

The shotgun and drone were seized by police.<\/p>\n

The drone was reported to be a DJI Phantom 2 Vision quadcopter, which costs around \u00a3650.<\/p>\n

In a poll<\/a> conducted in the US last year, 47% of respondents believed they had a right to shoot down a drone if one flew over their house and recorded them and their property without their permission.<\/p>\n

Last month, video footage<\/a> emerged of an \u2018angry ram\u2019 attacking a drone in New Zealand.<\/p>\n

In the UK, an Amateur Photographer<\/em> (AP) reader <\/a>said he witnessed a drone crash into a crowd at a classic car event in Brighton, East Sussex over the summer, sparking anger from witnesses.<\/p>\n

Last month, AP\u00a0published an article <\/a>on the safe use of drones in the UK.<\/p>\n
