The Judges’ Choice winning image, by Alex Davies, who died before receiving her award<\/em><\/p>\n

Alex Davies won the Judges\u2019 Choice award in the My London<\/a> calendar competition, which involved more than 100 people affected by homelessness taking pictures using single-use cameras.<\/p>\n

The contest was run by Caf\u00e9 Art<\/a>, an organisation which aims to connect homeless people with the wider community through art.<\/p>\n

Alex, whose photo of a man in a cream-coloured suit was chosen as the September image (above), died recently, organisers said.<\/p>\n

Alex had not been aware she had won the award at the time of her death, though she knew her work would be featured in the calendar.<\/p>\n

\u2018We were very shocked to hear, a few weeks ago, that Alex Davies had passed away,\u2019 said Caf\u00e9 Art director Paul Ryan.<\/p>\n

Speaking at an awards ceremony at Spitalfields Market in east London, this lunchtime, he added:\u00a0\u2018Unfortunately, Alex never saw the calendar printed. She was very proud of it. She saw the PDF [file] and emailed it to everybody she knew.\u2019<\/p>\n

John Spencer, who had a photo published in last year\u2019s calendar, told Amateur Photographer<\/em> that the award would serve as a fitting memory for Alex\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\"OLYMPUS\n

The street photographers shot thousands images for the project, which was backed by the Royal Photographic Society.<\/p>\n

The My London calendar goes on sale from today, priced \u00a39.99.<\/p>\n

It is available from vendors (in a similar way to the Big Issue<\/em>), and through the Caf\u00e9 Art website at\u00a0\u00a0www.cafeart.org.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An exhibition of the best entries runs until 19 October at Spitalfields Market.<\/p>\n\"79410003.web\"<\/a>\n
