Tucked away on the Sony stand at CES in Las Vegas are prototype versions of the next generation of FE lenses. The full frame E-Mount lenses are designed to work with the Sony Alpha 7 series cameras, including the Alpha 7 II that was released at the end of last year.<\/p>\n

Since the launch of the Alpha 7 range, photographers have been asking for a wide-angle lens. Sony has shown a wideangle lens on its roadmaps for a while, but finally we know that this lens will be an FE 28mm f\/2 lens. However, those who want to go even wider will also have the choice of a wideangle or fisheye adapter. Prototypes of these lenses are also on show, however, it isn’t clear which lens, or lenses, the adapter will be compatible with, though it is fairly safe to assume it will probably be the 28mm f\/2.<\/p>\n

Another\u00a0gap in the FE lens range is its lack of macro lens. Sony previously listed a macro lens on their roadmaps, and the mock-up reveals that the lens will be a Sony FE 90mm f\/2.8 Macro G OSS lens. This focal length should work well on a full-frame camera, with the optical stabilisation being a good addition for those photographers who do own the Sony Alpha 7 II, which is the only camera in the range with sensor based image stabilisation. The lens will also work with Sony E mount cameras, such as the Alpha 6000 and older NEX range.<\/p>\n

Amongst the other lenses on show is a Zeiss Distagon T* FE 35mm f\/1.4 ZA lens. This lens offers a larger aperture than the existing Sony FE 35mm f\/2.8 lens and given the performance of the Zeiss lenses we have seen on the Alpha 7 cameras, it should prove to be a popular lens.<\/p>\n

Finally, those photographers not wanting to change lenses to often will be pleased with the addition of a FE 24-240mm f\/3.5-5.6 OSS travel zoom lens.<\/p>\n
