Ollie Taylor, a landscape photographer from Dorset, beat more than 21,000 entries worldwide to win the Velux \u2018Lovers of Light\u2019 competition.<\/p>\n
On hearing of his win, Ollie explained that his winning shot of Durdle Door \u2013 a top location for many UK photo enthusiasts \u2013 was a personal milestone.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2018ve been photographing Durdle Door for years in search of the prefect photo,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018When I took this winter shot I\u2019d worked out exactly where the sun would be positioned at that time of day, and used a lens I knew produced excellent sun stars with the right settings and conditions.<\/p>\n
\u2018Finally, I was able to achieve the image I had painted in my mind\u2019s eye.\u2019<\/p>\n
Joe Tree, one of the judges, said: \u2018What Ollie has achieved with the composition, timing and light\u2026 is nothing short of spectacular\u2026<\/p>\n
\u2018It\u2019s not just Ollie\u2019s technical ability that wowed judges. He\u2019s managed to create a scene so vibrant and beautiful you want to walk right into it and watch the sun setting.\u2019<\/p>\n
Ollie added: \u2018It is such an honour for my photo to be chosen from so many incredible entries.<\/p>\n
\u2018The prize is pretty amazing. I can\u2019t wait to explore such a fascinating part of the world and experience the unique light you get so far north.<\/p>\n
\u2018It goes without saying that I\u2019ll be taking my camera.\u2019<\/p>\n
Two other UK photographers, Ford Buchanan and Graham Colling, won \u2018honourable mentions\u2019.<\/p>\n
Ollie’s trip to Finland will include a night in an igloo under the midnight sun, and a stay in a log cabin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
