There’s some fierce competition in the travel zoom arena at the moment, with the new Sony HX90V arriving to nip at the heels of the popular Panasonic TZ70.<\/p>\n

Equipped with a seriously impressive optical zoom range of 24-270mm, the Sony HX90V also comes packing a tilting LCD screen, a pop-up electronic viewfinder and an 18.2-million-pixel, 1\/2.3in, Exmor R back-illuminated sensor.<\/p>\n

The pop-up viewfinder is an OLED model that may look familiar to anyone who has used the RX100 III<\/a>. The Bionz X processor is a new addition over the previous model the HX60, and Sony says it has significantly improved in-camera noise-reduction.<\/p>\n

One aspect of the HX90V that is worth noting is that it does not capture Raw files \u2013 JPEGs are all you get. This arguably gives its competitor the TZ70 a slight edge for enthusiast photographers, though Sony’s camera does offer GPS where the TZ70 does not. (Though if GPS doesn’t matter to you there’s also the HX90, a slightly cheaper model that does away with it and is in other respects identical).<\/p>\n
