Often we associate macro images with standard \u2013 yet always beautiful \u2013 images of insects, spiders and plants. However, in Aaron\u2019s highly atmospheric image we find that he has given us a shot that in the simplest way communicates, in his own words, \u2018the immense power of nature\u2019. The mighty thorns contrast perfectly with the delicate hairs that adorn the branch. It says a lot about the dual faces of nature. There\u2019s a dark and moody atmosphere to the image that guarantees you\u2019ll want to look at it again and again. It\u2019s a great shot and more than deserves to take first place in this round.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/apoy\/apoy-2015-round-5-up-close-results\/attachment\/2-claire-willans\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"135\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/08\/2.-Claire-Willans.jpg?w=135&amp;h=100&amp;crop=1\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-59659\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-59659'>\n\t\t\t\tIn second place we have a softly lit and almost otherworldly shot of the fruit and husk from a plant from the Physalis genus, probably from a ground cherry species. Claire\u2019s image was an instant standout for a number of the judges. There\u2019s an ethereal quality to the shot that draws you in and keeps you engaged in an oddly dreamlike way. This picture shows what you can do with the right subject and the right light. The shallow depth of field has, in a very soft way, given the image a three-dimensional feel.\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/apoy\/apoy-2015-round-5-up-close-results\/attachment\/3-leeacaster\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"135\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/08\/3.-LeeAcaster.jpg?w=135&amp;h=100&amp;crop=1\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-59660\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt>\n\t\t\t\t<dd class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-59660'>\n\t\t\t\tLee Acaster has scored well throughout this year\u2019s APOY. \nHe\u2019s a photographer who has a natural affinity with the outdoors and a keen eye for those details many of us would miss. \u2018I was shooting at Shingle Street in Suffolk to capture the sunrise when I noticed the delicate ice crystals on the frozen pebbles below catching the first light,\u2019 says Lee of this shot. Often we associate macro images with standard \u2013 yet always beautiful \u2013 images of insects, spiders and plants. However, in Aaron\u2019s highly atmospheric image we find that he has given us a shot that in the simplest way communicates, in his own words, \u2018the immense power of nature\u2019. The mighty thorns contrast perfectly with the delicate hairs that adorn the branch. It says a lot about the dual faces of nature. There\u2019s a dark and moody atmosphere to the image that guarantees you\u2019ll want to look at it again and again. This picture shows what you can do with the right subject and the right light.
