The \u2018palm-sized\u2019 Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R II sports a 35mm f\/2 Zeiss Sonnar T* lens and a \u201830%\u2019 faster AF.<\/p>\n

The RX1R II will cost \u00a32,600 when it goes on sale in December.<\/p>\n

The optical variable low-pass filter can be set to \u2018off\u2019, \u2018standard\u2019 or \u2018high\u2019, based on user preference.<\/p>\n

The new Cyber-shot also features a tilt screen but has no built-in flash.<\/p>\n

ISO 100-25,600 is expandable to ISO 50-102,400.<\/p>\n

The nine-aperture lens has a macro shift ring for focusing on subjects as close as 14cm.<\/p>\n

The optical variable low-pass filter is designed to allow photographers to \u2018manually adjust the balance of image resolution and presence of moir\u00e9 or colour artifacts to match the subject\u2019.<\/p>\n

Sony claimed in a press statement (below): \u2018This unique feature allows photographers to achieve the desired image quality and resolution based on the presence of moir\u00e9-inducing high spatial frequency objects in the scene, essentially combining two cameras \u2013 one with and without a low-pass filter \u2013 into one body.<\/p>\n

\u2018Low-pass filter bracketing is also available and can be used to compare the effects of different settings.\u2019<\/p>\n\"low-pass.web\"<\/a>\n

ISO 100-25,600 is expandable to ISO 50-102,400.<\/p>\n

Weighing 480g, the RX1R II incorporates uncompressed 14-bit raw file capture, in addition to compressed format recording.<\/p>\n

Firepower includes 399 phase-detection AF points, along with 25 contrast AF points, plus five frames per second continuous shooting and AF tracking.<\/p>\n

Improvements over previous models include multiple AF area settings \u2013 including wide, centre and flexible spot; and Eye AF and lock-on AF.<\/p>\n

Designed to be activated by one-push operation, the retractable 7.5cm (2.4-million-dot resolution) XGA OLED Tru-Finder has a magnification of 0.74x.<\/p>\n

Also on board is a 1.2-million-dot LCD monitor, built to tilt upwards by 109\u00b0 and down 41\u00b0, in addition to full HD video functionality.<\/p>\n\n

\nSony today introduced the latest addition to their acclaimed Cyber-shot RX compact camera line, the full-frame RX1R II (model DSC-RX1RM2).\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Joining the original RX1 and RX1R cameras in the family of the world\u2019s smallest full-frame cameras, the new RX1R II delivers the highest picture quality of any Sony compact camera ever made.\u00a0 This can largely be attributed to the new camera\u2019s high resolution 42.4 MP sensor paired with its large aperture, fixed focal length ZEISS Sonnar T* 35mm F2 lens, which have been fine-tuned to optimise performance together.<\/em><\/p>\n

Additionally, the new model features a 30% improvement in AF response speed compared to the original award-winning RX1 models and is equipped with the world\u2019s first optical variable low pass filter that can be set to \u201coff\u201d, \u201cstandard\u201d or \u201chigh\u201d based on user preference with low pass filter bracketing available. It also has a convenient retractable XGA OLED viewfinder for eye-level shooting, which has been implemented with minimal change in overall body size from its predecessors.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ultimate Image Quality in the Palm of Your Hand<\/em>
\n The new RX1R II camera utilises a back-illuminated 35mm full-frame Exmor R\u00ae CMOS sensor with approx. 42.4 effective megapixels paired with a powerful BIONZ X processing engine to achieve superior levels of image resolution and sensitivity (ISO 100-25600, expandable to 50 \u2013 102400[ii]) with wide dynamic range.\u00a0 The sensor\u2019s back-illuminated structure, with an expanded circuit scale and copper wiring design, enables faster transmission speed and outputs data approximately 3.5x faster than the original RX1R, ensuring high-speed performance.<\/em><\/p>\n

Matched specifically for the image sensor, the large aperture 35mm F2 ZEISS Sonnar T* lens ensures that all images captured by the camera are impressively sharp from the centre to the corners.\u00a0 The lens also has a unique Macro shift ring for focusing on subjects as close as 14cm in front of the lens and has nine aperture blades that produce smooth, even background defocus or \u2018bokeh\u2019 in the most commonly used aperture ranges.<\/em><\/p>\n

Another unique benefit of the new camera is its fixed lens design, which allows the positioning of its sensor and lens to be precisely adjusted to maximise all benefits of the sensor\u2019s extremely high resolution.\u00a0 The closer the two components are to one another, the wider the angle through which light can pass through the lens and directly reach the sensor, resulting in imagery that is rich in detail and resolution.\u00a0 Also, unlike the focal plane shutter common to interchangeable lens cameras, RX1R II utilises an in-lens shutter, allowing 1\/2000 sec flash synch speed and a significant reduction in overall body size.<\/em><\/p>\n

The new RX1R II also offers uncompressed 14-bit RAW image capture to maximise the benefits of the image sensor\u2019s wide dynamic range, while also still supporting existing compressed format.<\/em><\/p>\n

High Speed AF to Capture the Decisive Moment<\/em>
\n The RX1R II model is the first in Sony\u2019s acclaimed RX line of compact cameras to feature Fast Hybrid AF capabilities.\u00a0 The camera\u2019s sensor features 399 focal-plane phase-detection AF points that cover about 45% of the image area \u2013 the world\u2019s widest AF coverage on a full-frame sensori \u2013 that work together with 25 contrast AF points to achieve focus response that is about 30% faster than the original model.\u00a0 Additionally, the camera has adapted an advanced motion-detection algorithm that offers superior tracking performance of moving subjects and allows for the addition of AF-C mode that accurately tracks a subject after focusing.\u00a0 It also can achieve up to 5fps continuous shooting with AF tracking.<\/em><\/p>\n

Other focusing improvements on the new model include multiple AF area settings including Wide, Centre and Flexible Spot, as well as Eye AF and lock-on AF.<\/em><\/p>\n

World\u2019s First Optical Variable Low Pass Filter<\/em>
\n In a first for digital cameras, the RX1R II features an optical variable low pass filter that allows shooters to manually adjust the balance of image resolution and presence of moir\u00e9 or colour artifacts to match the subject.<\/em><\/p>\n

The three settings for the low-pass filter[iii]\u00a0 include \u201coff\u201d, which provides comparable effects to having no low-pass filter and is suitable when prioritising resolution, \u201cstandard\u201d, which strikes a balance between resolution and removal of moir\u00e9 and colour artifacts, and \u201chigh\u201d, which places more emphasis on reducing moir\u00e9 and artifacting.\u00a0 This unique feature allows photographers to achieve the desired image quality and resolution based on the presence of moir\u00e9-inducing high spatial frequency objects in the scene, essentially combining two cameras \u2013 one with and without a low-pass filter \u2013 into one body.\u00a0 Low-pass filter bracketing is also available and can be used to compare the effects of different settings.<\/em><\/p>\n

New Retractable XGA OLED Viewfinder, Tiltable Screen, HD Video and more<\/em>
\n New for the RX1 series, the RX1R II has a built-in retractable XGA OLED Tru-Finder[iv] that pops up and down with simple one-push operation.\u00a0 The viewfinder features ZEISS T* Coating and four glass elements, including two aspherical lenses, that work together to deliver a magnification of 0.74x[v]\u00a0 and clear corner-to-corner visibility with minimal distortion.\u00a0 The new camera also has a 3.0 type WhiteMagic\u2122 1.2 million dot LCD display that can tilt upwards to 109 degrees and downwards to 41 degrees, allowing for a greater range of shooting angles and positions.<\/em><\/p>\n

On the video side, the camera\u2019s advanced sensor and processor deliver exceptionally detailed movies with low levels of noise.\u00a0 It is able to support full HD 1920×1080 video recording at frame rates of 60p, 30p or 24p through use of the versatile XAVC S movie recording format.[vi]<\/em><\/p>\n

The new RX1R II camera is also Wi-Fi\u00ae and NFC compatible and fully functional with Sony\u2019s PlayMemories Mobile\u2122 application available for Android\u2122 and iOS platforms, as well as Sony\u2019s growing range of PlayMemories Camera Apps\u2122.<\/em><\/p>\n
