I suspect the JPEG original image I was given to work with had already been pre-processed. I say this because the peacock\u2019s body appears to be much lighter than the rest of its feathers. In any case, the overall image could do with being made a bit darker, intensifying tone and colour. I used the Basic panel and Tone Curve adjustments in Camera Raw to do this and an HSL adjustment to selectively darken the blues more. I followed this by applying a negative Highlights adjustment to darken the highlight tones. Finally, I boosted the Vibrance a little.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Tone Curve to add contrast<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/step25.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64189\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/step25.jpg\" alt=\"Step2-add contrast\" width=\"600\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/step25.jpg 600w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/step25.jpg?resize=300,181 300w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/step25.jpg?resize=562,339 562w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Having established the Basic panel settings, I went to the Tone Curve panel where I adjusted the parametric sliders to create the \u2018S\u2019-shape curve you can see here. This allowed me to add more contrast and darken the mid-to-dark tones more.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Add a Radial Filter adjustment<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/step35.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64185\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/step35.jpg\" alt=\"Step3-radial filter\" width=\"600\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/step35.jpg 600w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/step35.jpg?resize=300,179 300w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/step35.jpg?resize=562,334 562w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>The peacock\u2019s body was still too light, so I selectively darkened the luminance (via the HSL panel) for the blues.
