Global shipments rose 33.7% to 217,444 units in February compared to the same month a year earlier, according to figures<\/a> published by Japan’s Camera & Imaging Products Association.<\/p>\n

This marks a turnaround on shipments for January-December 2013, which fell more than 16%, in unit terms year-on-year. <\/p>\n

In February 2014, shipments increased by 54.2% in value.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the news, Japanese trade newsletter Pen<\/em> said this was mainly due to CSCs \u2018gaining demand in the international market outside Japan, in addition to continued strong demand at home’.<\/p>\n

Shipments to Europe climbed 26% but fell 34.2% to the American market.<\/p>\n

Global shipments of SLRs, meanwhile, dropped 12.3% in February.<\/p>\n

Last week<\/a> we reported that, in the UK, CSC sales shot up 21% in volume and 19% in value in January and February 2014, in separate figures released by market research firm GfK.<\/p>\n

The apparent renaissance comes after UK sales crashed last year and SLR sales outnumbered CSCs<\/a> four to one.<\/p>\n

However, GfK warned that the demise of the old Jessops in January last year – which forced the closure of 187 stores nationwide and had an immediate impact on high-street sales – has skewed the UK’s year-on-year results.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
