I then introduced a darkening vignette to concentrate the eye more on the centre of the scene and give the photograph depth. The photograph needed to be lightened a lot, so I set the Exposure slider to +1.05. I then reduced the Highlights slider to preserve the delicate highlight detail and raised the Shadows to bring out more shadow information. I also increased the Contrast slightly.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Tone Curve adjustment<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Step212.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64682\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Step212.jpg\" alt=\"Step2-tone curve adjustment\" width=\"600\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Step212.jpg 600w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Step212.jpg?resize=300,198 300w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Step212.jpg?resize=562,370 562w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>The default white balance setting looked rather cold, so I went to the white balance menu in the Basic panel and selected Daylight. I next went to the Tone Curve panel and applied the parametric settings shown here for a boost in contrast. I adjusted the \u2028tone range sliders to accentuate the contrast at the extreme highlight and shadow ends of the curve.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Add a darkening vignette<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Step312.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64679\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Step312.jpg\" alt=\"Step3-darkening vignette\" width=\"600\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Step312.jpg 600w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Step312.jpg?resize=300,198 300w, https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2015\/10\/Step312.jpg?resize=562,370 562w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Finally, I went to the Effects panel and added a darkening vignette. More specifically, I selected the Highlight Priority from the Style menu, where I set the Amount to -32 and increased the Feather amount to +76.
