The dp-Quattro series won the German Design Award 2016\u2019s Excellent Product Design Entertainment category, Sigma said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Among the German Design Council\u2019s reasons for the gong, according to Sigma, is the camera\u2019s \u2018excellent proportions, lightweight and perfect ergonomics\u2019, making it \u2018more secure and comfortable to hold and intuitive to operate\u2019.<\/p>\n

First unveiled<\/a> in February 2012, the dp Quattro uses a 39-million-pixel Foveon imaging sensor.<\/p>\n

At the time, Sigma said: \u2018For the new dp series, we rethought and redesigned every aspect of the camera, including the sensor, engine, lens and body.\u2019<\/p>\n

The first model to hit the market was the dp2 Quattro, featuring a 30mm f\/2.8 lens and replacing the previous-generation DP2 Merrill.<\/p>\n

Sigma claimed that the dp Quattro body offered a \u2018balanced shape, layout and weight distribution\u2019.<\/p>\n

However, in a full review of the dp2 Quattro<\/a>, in August 2014, AP described the camera body as strikingly unconventional, bulky and awkward with an ‘uncomfortable handgrip’.<\/p>\n

That said, the camera achieved a rating exceeding three out of five stars, with AP praising its \u2018extraordinarily sharp lens\u2019 and \u2018good control layout\u2019.<\/p>\n

The German Design Council says the award\u2019s aim is \u2018discovering, presenting and awarding unique design trends\u2019.<\/p>\n

Expert panel members evaluate nominations based on \u2018intensive tests, check and discussions\u2019, according to the German Design Council website.<\/p>\n
