Goran Jovic, a professional photographer from Imotski, Croatia, won the Gold Award in a contest also open to amateurs.<\/p>\n

Goran\u2019s photo, simply called \u2018Observer\u2019, won the portrait category and the $1,000 top prize.<\/p>\n

Paul Richards from Edinburgh was among three photographers to earn honourable mentions for his image entitled \u2018Champagne Pool\u2019.<\/p>\n

Daniel Oxtoby, a UK photographer who set up the competition, said: \u2018The idea was to showcase some of the brilliant, creative and inspiring work carried out by photographers across the world.<\/p>\n

‘And it certainly succeeded! The standard of entries was outstanding, and the judges had a hard time deciding the winners of each category.\u2019<\/p>\n

Casey Mayer from the USA won the Arts & Fashion category; Yves Demers Paris from Canada triumphed in Nature & Landscape; and Siyuan Ma from Singapore clinched first place in the Street & Architecture section.<\/p>\n

Oxtoby added: \u2018Well done to all those who entered \u2013 your work was truly amazing.\u2019<\/p>\n

Judges included Kenneth Hughes, a photo editor for Bloomberg Photo Service in New York; Gerry Brakus, creative editor at New Statesman<\/em>; and Benedict Brain, editor of Digital Camera<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n
