The New York Public Library has released\u00a0more than 180,000 \u2018out-of-copyright\u2019 items for public \u2018sharing and reuse\u2019, including high-resolution downloads.<\/p>\n

\u2018No permission required, no hoops to jump through: just go forth and reuse!\u2019 urges the New York Public Library on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The collection includes Berenice Abbott\u2019s documentation of 1930s New York for the Federal Art Fund and images by Dorothea Lange, Lewis Hine and Walker Evans.<\/p>\n

The Library says it has removed administration fees and made it easier to access the digitised photos.<\/p>\n

\u2018The release of more than 180,000 digitised items represents both a simplification and an enhancement of digital access to a trove of unique and rare materials\u2026\u2019 said the New York Public Library in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u2018All subsequently digitised public domain collections will be made available in the same way, joining a growing repository of open materials,\u2019 it added.<\/p>\n

The archive also includes maps and manuscripts.<\/p>\n

The move was reported by the British photographic history<\/a> website earlier this month.<\/p>\n
