which is designed for use by authorities such as police, first uses a laser rangefinder and on-board computer to calculate the speed and position of a drone.<\/p>\n<p>A gas-powered projectile armed with a net then intercepts the drone, before using a parachute to bring the offending device safely back to earth.<\/p>\n<p>The SkyWall100 is the first of a series of anti-drone devices aimed at tackling the \u2018civil drone threat\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Designed to counter public nuisance, invasion of privacy, security concerns and terrorist threats, the \u2018man-portable\u2019 SkyWall100 was developed by Northumberland-based firm OpenWorks Engineering.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SkyWall : SkyWall100 Drone Defence System - A Man Portable and Cost Effective Counter Drone System\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6uu4yoi0TqY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>SkyWall100 will first be demonstrated to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said engineering director Neil Armstrong.<\/p>\n<p>It will also be showcased at the Home Office Security &amp; Policing event in Farnborough, Hampshire, from 8-10 March.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Amateur Photographer<\/em>, Armstrong said the firm is also expecting an uptake from private security firms \u2013 for VIP protection, for example \u2013 and infrastructure such as power stations.<\/p>\n<p>The company says its SkyWall system can be rapidly reloaded to deal with \u2018multiple drone threats\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Drones have already been used to carry out crimes against individuals and organsations,\u2019 states the SkyWall brochure.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018As the technology becomes cheaper and more widely adopted the number of incidents will inevitably increase\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2018[Drones] have infiltrated the security of heads of state, delivered contraband into prisons and photographed private film sets and celebrity\u2019s property.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In recent months there have been a growing number of reports of <a href=\"http:\/\/amateurphotographer.co.uk\/latest\/photo-news\/drone-users-warned-after-device-misses-plane-by-50ft-54942\">near-misses<\/a> involving drones and commercial aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>And last year a drone enthusiast who <a href=\"http:\/\/amateurphotographer.co.uk\/latest\/photo-news\/drone-hobbyist-banned-after-flying-device-over-buildings-including-buckingham-palace-and-the-shard-61131#cfBsO5R5zBvkl8ws.99\">flew his device over Buckingham Palace<\/a>, the Houses of Parliament and football stadiums, was banned in the first prosecution of its kind in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, drone maker DJI unveiled the Phantom 4, which features two on-board sensors designed to allow the drone to <a href=\"http:\/\/amateurphotographer.co.uk\/latest\/photo-news\/new-dji-phantom-4-drone-is-built-to-fly-around-obstacles-and-cut-risk-of-collision-71566#ERbTaBuPZg6FWWTH.99\">avoid obstacles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>DJI CEO Frank Wang claimed: \u2019With the Phantom 4, we are entering an era where even beginners can fly with confidence.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technical details, as
