{"id":74716,"date":"2016-04-27T09:53:23","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T08:53:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amateurphotographer.co.uk\/?p=74716"},"modified":"2016-04-27T10:47:40","modified_gmt":"2016-04-27T09:47:40","slug":"briton-crowned-food-photographer-year-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/other.kelsey.host\/amateurphotographer\/latest\/photo-news\/briton-crowned-food-photographer-year-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Briton crowned Food Photographer of the Year 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[\u00a9 Mark Benham]<\/p>\n<p>Mark&#8217;s photograph \u2018Flour Fenzy\u2019 triumphed over more than 7,000 images and films to make him the second Briton to take the Food Photographer of the Year title in the competition\u2019s five-year history.<\/p>\n<p>His winning photo also topped The Philip Harben Award for Food in Action category.<\/p>\n<p>This is Mark\u2019s second success in the competition since he won the Food for Celebration category last year. Mark says he uses natural light where he can.<\/p>\n<p>Restaurant critic Jay Rayner who chaired the judging panel said Mark\u2019s shot of a baker kneading dough has \u2018a lovely structural element to it\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u2018In the end, it normally comes down to three or four photos which particularly arouse opinion.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s down to the content \u2013 do they speak to the question of food?<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And how well do they tell their own stories?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mark, who switched to photography after a career as a graphic designer, received his award at a ceremony held at the Mall Galleries in London attended by 400 guests.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s judging panel included <em>Amateur Photographer<\/em> Editor Nigel Atherton and photography dealer Chris \/>[\u00a9 Isaac Callis]<\/p>\n<p>During his previous life as a graphic designer, Mark worked with studio-based photographers where he art-directed and sometimes styled shoots.<\/p>\n<p>On his website Mark adds: \u2018I search for images that tell engaging stories and capture the essence of what I see, whether it\u2019s documenting the work of the charity People Against Poverty, olive harvesting in Tuscany or covering events in the UK and abroad.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Food Photographer of the Year was launched in 2011 by Caroline Kenyon after two decades of commissioning photography and a desire to see \u2018this wonderful and vibrant sector of photography given the recognition it deserves\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>For further details visit <a
