AP readers really excelled
\nthemselves in round 8 of APOY 2013, as we reveal the top 30 photographs from
\nour Wideangle World<\/strong> round<\/p>\n

<\/img><\/p>\n

John Hall<\/strong>, from County Cork in Ireland, is the winner of our Wideangle
\nWorld round of APOY 2013. John will receive a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 with Lumix
\nG Vario 7-14mm f\/4 Asph lens, worth a total of \u00a31,749.98. The G5 is a digital
\nsingle-lens mirrorless camera with a 16.05-million-pixel, micro four thirds,
\nLive MOS sensor. It has 6fps high-speed continuous shooting, a 3in, 920,000-dot
\narticulated LCD touchscreen and a 1.44-million-dot EVF. The compact and
\nlightweight Lumix G Vario 7-14mm f\/4 Asph is an ultra-wideangle zoom lens
\n(14-28mm equivalent) with a 114\u221e angle of view. <\/p>\n

Our second-placed winner is Ferdinand von Korff,<\/strong> from County Wicklow in
\nIreland, who will receive a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ40, worth \u00a3329.99. The
\n18.1-million-pixel TZ40 has a High Sensitivity MOS sensor and Venus Engine, and
\nincorporates a 24mm ultra-wideangle 20x optical zoom Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens
\n(24-480mm equivalent). Wi-Fi connectivity and NFC technology are included. <\/p>\n

<\/img>Bruce
\nMarshall<\/strong>, from Belfast in Northern Ireland, finished third in the round and
\nwins a Panasonic Lumix DMX-SZ3 worth \u00a3119.99. The slimline 16.1-million-pixel
\nSZ3 compact has a 25mm ultra-wideangle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with powerful
\n10x optical zoom (25-250mm equivalent).<\/p>\n

Judges say: \u2018Wideangle lenses have many applications. They can be used
\nto give you a greater scope of the scene or even to employ the strange
\ndistortion effects. Here, though, John has used his lens to convey the awesome
\nscale of this derelict ship found in Baltray, County Louth. Everything works
\nhere – the light, the angle, the subject. Even the rust is a fantastic detail.
\nThis is a wonderful image.’<\/p>\n

\nof events we may never experience. Here we find ourselves in the great outdoors
\nherding sheep in Georgia. The decision to shoot from horseback is a stroke of
\nbrilliance. The wideangle lens means that we also have the crucial element of
\nthe horse’s head and the sweeping vista.’<\/p>\n

\nsay: \u2018This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved with the right lens
\nand the right scene. Bruce found this image after days of heavy rain caused
\nflooding. By using a wide lens he has been able to capture the stunning leading
\nlines of the trees, the verdant foliage and even a jogger out for a morning
\nrun. The painterly light caps it all off.’<\/p>\n
