At a freezing temperature of minus twenty and lower, with the constant breeze [and] snow from all directions, it was pretty hard to convince myself to get out of the car and take photos. Not until I saw Inner Mongolia horsemen showing off their skills in commanding the steed from a distance, did I quickly grab my telephoto lens and capture the moment when one of the horsemen charged out from the morning mist&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[\u00a9 <a href=\"http:\/\/yourshot.nationalgeographic.com\/profile\/430662\/\">Anthony Lau <\/a>\/ National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year]<\/p>\n\n<p>Anthony\u2019s photo of a horseman in Inner Mongolia beat thousands of entries \u2013 including those by professionals \u2013 to win the 2016 National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year, earning him a week-long <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalgeographiclodges.com\/lodges\/north-america\/churchill-wild-seal-river-heritage-lodge\/about\/?utm_source=NGCommunications&amp;utm_medium=press_release&amp;utm_content=201603_TravelPhotographerOfTheYear2016_ChurchillWild&amp;utm_campaign=NGdotcom#.V3Z3mxQrKA8\">Polar Bear Photo Safari<\/a> for two.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers revealed to AP that they believe Anthony is an \u2018amateur photographer\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on his \u2018Winter Horseman\u2019 photo \u2013\u00a0 taken after an early morning hike\u00a0 \u2013 Anthony said: \u2018The snow was getting heavier, the wind was getting stronger, the morning snow was getting thinner and the light was moving away from its optimal position.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I knew I only had a couple of shots to get the best out of this encounter.
