From July 17,
\nprofessional photographers will be submitting their best images of everything
\nthat’s happened in the past year in a bid to win the coveted title of SABMiller
\nPhotographer of the Year.<\/p>\n
UK Picture
\nEditors’ Guild Chairman Alan Sparrow said, \u2018The past year has produced a wealth
\nof stores at home and abroad – from sporting feats at Wimbledon to legendary
\nperformances at Glastonbury. We’ve witnessed uprisings in Egypt, a new Pope in
\nRome and there’s a Royal baby on the way too. With such rich content to
\ncapture, we anticipate another highly competitive year.’<\/p>\n
Categories
\ninclude News, Business, Fashion and Sports photography, as well as videography
\nand photo essays. From these categories, the ultimate winner will be selected.<\/p>\n
Last year the
\ntop prize was scooped by freelance photographer Jason Howe, for his photo essay
\non the war in Afghanistan. Other winners included Getty photographer Dan
\nKitwood for his coverage of the London Riots.<\/p>\n
The competition
\nalso includes the BT Citizen Photographer of the Year prize. This award is free to enter and open to
\nall members of the public. Last year it was won by Dr Kannan Arthreya for his
\nimage taken during the Olympics.<\/p>\n
This year’s
\nhost BBC presenter Kate Silverton said, \u2018As a journalist I know how important
\nvisuals are to bring a story to life. We’ll be looking for images that tell a
\nstory or capture a moment in time, in a way words sometimes cannot.’<\/p>\n
